Working Together with Parents

We aim to make Brambly Hedge Day Nursery in Castleford a welcoming childcare environment where children settle quickly and easily because consideration has been given to the individual needs and circumstances of all children and their families in our childcare service.

Before your child starts nursery we will offer you free settling in sessions which will support you and your child to begin to develop trusting, confident relationships with us. You are welcome to stay in the nursery with your child for as long as you like, until you feel satisfied that your child has adapted to their new environment and is happy.

We will give you frequent feedback on a daily basis (both written and verbal) and we will also keep you informed and involved through letters, newsletters, parents’ evenings and information displayed on notice boards throughout the nursery.

The Day Nursery Key Person System

key person system

When your child first starts to attend our nursery in Castleford, you will both be allocated a member of staff who will be your Key Person, a familiar and special adult who will provide specialist childcare, helping your child to settle in and feel happy, secure and confident when you are not around.

Your child’s Key Person will discuss with you your child’s likes, dislikes and routines and then ensure that both you and your child’s individual requirements and priorities are met.

Child Profiles

Your child will be given a ‘Learning Journey Profile', which records and celebrates children's achievements and milestones.

The profile will contain photographs of your child, work samples, written observations and learning plans. Your child's Key Person will be responsible for building and updating the profile and for keeping you closely informed about your child's progress and well-being. Your child's profile will be available for you to view at any time.
