Our nursery Primary Room
Our nursery Primary Room in Castleford provides the childcare and developmental
needs of our 3-4 year olds. Children have access to a wide range of
play and learning opportunities, for example: reading and writing activities,
story time, story bags, listening to taped stories, early number work,
computer activities, puzzles, role play, music and movement, creative
activities, sand and water play, malleable and dough activities, technology,
construction, small world activities, cookery and gardening.
Children also take part in our ‘Letters and Sounds’
teaching programme which gives them the skills they require to begin
to learn to read, write and spell. This programme continues in our Pre-School.
Children enjoy regular opportunities for physical
outdoor play and are supported by staff to explore and find out about
the natural world around them (for example, investigating the weather,
mini beasts, gardening and growing things such as flowers, fruit and
vegetables). Our outdoor play area is the largest of all the nurseries
They have access to their own ‘free flow’
outdoor play area so they are able to choose for themselves whether
to be indoors or out.
Personal, Social and Emotional skills are developed and they learn about
respect for cultural diversity and about keeping themselves healthy
and safe. Staff members support children to make good and steady progress
within the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.
