Brambly Hedge Nursery News Archive
People Who Help Us
have recently had visits from ‘People Who Help Us’ within the community
which included visits from the Fire Service, Police Officers and the
Oral Health Team. The children enjoyed being able to dress up in different
costumes and were able to sit in a police van and fire engine.
During the summer holidays, we were visited by Warburton’s Bakery who talked to the children about healthy eating, allowed the children to sample a range of breads and supported the children to bake bread roll hedgehogs.
Oral Health Promotion
We are working with the Oral Health Promotion team
to participate in the ‘Work Together, Smile Forever’ programme where
children aged 2 years and over can take part in a voluntary Fluoride
Varnish Application Scheme which is free for all children aged over
2 years and can help significantly reduce the risk of tooth decay later
in life. This is a simple and painless application of a fluoride varnish
to the teeth.
Friday 3rd July, we held our annual sports day and were joined by parents
and carers to support the children in a range of races. We ended the
day with a family and friends picnic.
Throughout the summer term, the Primary and Preschool children learnt a range of news songs and performed them for parents and carers on Friday 10th July. The children enjoyed dressing up and using a range of props throughout their performance. The children shared activities such as ‘dough disco’ and ‘squiggle whilst you wiggle’ with their parents and carers. After the performance, we had a family and friends picnic in the outdoor area. One of the parents commented ‘this has been their best performance, I have really enjoyed it’ whilst a grandparent commented, ‘they are all excellent, it is lovely to see how far they have come this year.’
Forest School Day
On Monday 6th July, we held a Forest School Experience day for the 3-5 year olds who participated in a full day of activities within our onsite woodland area. The activities offered included; leaf painting, den building, fire building, making clay masks, wood whittling fairies and elves and an outdoor picnic. The children enjoyed toasting marshmallows, playing a range of team games such as nest building and hide and seek. The children all had a fantastic day and the parents / carers were very pleased with the opportunity and the feedback that we received was very positive.
Upcoming Events / Celebrations
Throughout the Autumn Term, we will be celebrating the following events:
- Harvest Festival
- Bonfire night
- Remembrance Day
We will also have a professional photographer visiting nursery to take portraits of the children and we will be visited by the local oral hygienist to continue the voluntary Fluoride Varnish Scheme.
Throughout November and December we will also be promoting a ‘Dump the Dummy’ campaign in partnership with the local oral hygiene team in order to support parents / carers who wish to reduce or remove their child’s use of a dummy.
Our new Day Nursery meadow area
We have now added a large, enclosed meadow area to our extensive outdoor play area at our day nursery in Castleford. The new meadow area is in addition to our existing grassed and woodland outdoor play areas, and provides opportunities for Family Fun Days and Sports Days. We have the largest outdoor play area of all the nurseries in Castleford.
Our recent Family Fun Day included activities such as face painting, football, parachute games and obstacle courses for the children to enjoy. Our Sports Day, as well as numerous fun activities and races for our children, included a parents’ race and staff race.
Special Community Visitors to the Nursery
In order to support children’s awareness and learning about their local community we regularly invite ‘Special’ people into the nursery.
Recently we had a Policeman, Paramedic, Fire Fighter, Dental Hygienist and Road Safety Officer who all spent time with the children talking about the very special work they do within the local community to give the children a wider understanding about ‘The People Who Help Us and Keep Us Safe’.
We will shortly be installing covered, safe outdoor pushchair storage so that our parents are able to store their pushchairs whilst their children are at nursery.
We have recently spent over £700 to purchase new books for our Parents' and Children's Lending Library. Parents and children are able to choose a book to take home to read. Sharing a book with a child is always a very special time and helps to install a love of books and language from an early age and thus supports children in their early reading skills.
We recently had our Food Hygiene Annual Inspection and, once again, we were awarded the top 5 star rating.
