Welcome to Brambly Hedge Day Nursery in Castleford

Brambly Hedge is a long-established nursery located in Castleford with an excellent reputation. Our nursery rooms are well resourced and equipped to cater for the individual needs of children. Because we believe children learn best through play with strong adult support, all resources are freely available, at child height, encouraging independent play and self-choice.

Our nursery is set in over one acre of gardens, woodlands and extensive, well maintained grassed areas, including a large meadow area. We have the biggest outdoor play area out of all the other nurseries in Castleford. Children and parents love our outdoor play areas and we are very proud that we have them – children have so much fun and our outdoor areas supply our children with endless opportunities for learning in ‘the great out doors’.

Our nursery childcare rooms in Castleford provide a bright, spacious, yet warm and welcoming environment for our children. We have four modern and stimulating childcare rooms for our 0-5 year olds which incorporate peaceful sleeping areas, if needed, and separate changing areas, for nappy changing, potty training and toileting, as required. We have two Before and After School Rooms and Holiday Club. All rooms are air-conditioned to keep children cool during the summer months.

We are open from 8.00am (7.30am if required) to 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, 51 weeks per year (excluding Bank Holidays and the few days in-between Christmas and the New Year).

Our Management Team

The nursery is led by Susan Wakelin, a qualified teacher, (Batchelor of Education Degree), who has over 35 years’ experience working with young children both as a teacher, (Head of a Primary School Nursery Class), and twenty years at Brambly Hedge. Young children learn through play and we follow The Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, which is the exact same curriculum taught in schools. Running alongside the EYFS we also ensure that we focus on ensuring that children’s early numeracy and literacy skills are supported.

Our manager is Gina Robertson, who has also worked at Brambly Hedge since the year 2000 (twenty years). Over the years Gina has worked as a nursery nurse, then a Room Senior, then a Deputy Manager and finally as our Nursery Manager. Gina is extremely experienced, qualified, (Level 5 Management in Childcare), and has exceptional expertise and knowledge within the early years. There is nothing that she does not know about Brambly Hedge! She is also one of our Designated Safeguarding Leaders.

We have several other very long standing members of staff, (please see ‘Meet Our Staff’). It is unusual for a day nursery to have so many long standing members of staff but we are lucky because such loyal staff members provide the consistency and continuity of care which is essential for both children and parents alike.
